Synthetic Aesthetics
Imaginary Nudibranch #1
2024
I love diving and recently I picked underwater photography as a hobby.
During this new endeavour, the learning process got the better of some photos. Some of the most amazing Nudibranch I saw have fallen victim to a bad photo so I decided to ask an AI to transform it for me.
As the conversation with the AI unfolded I decided to escape the realistic look for a more abstract and imaginative one.
Inherent traits and surreal form make up for an imaginary creature I’d like to meet underwater. Maybe such a creature exists in the 95% of the sea we don’t know much of? May the currents guide me to these imaginary nudibranchs on my next uncharted adventure.
Synthetic Aesthetics
Imaginary Nudibranch #2
2024
On a night dive I saw a fish sleeping in a cocoon of its own slime to protect itself. And it left me wondering where does one body - or being per se - start and end? Can you dissolve into the environment and become one with it?
It’s much harder to go deep in the ocean than on the moon, and it’s at those depths that I wonder about the elusive creatures that elude the grasp of our understanding.
These imaginary nudibranchs contemplate these boundaries, venturing in reimagining the confines of embodiment. A re imagination of permanence as an accent of space-time, where form and being flow and blur.
Can it feel me when I get in the water? Does it know me by now?
